Dirt Juice

So, last week we took delivery of a boxload of Dirt Juice from those fine chaps at Juice Lubes. This is a new product from these guys that sees the company moving into the rather competitive and massively populated general bike cleaner sector of the market.

We were impressed with Juicy Lubes' first offering (the very effective Fork Juice) but will we be as impressed this time? Dirt Juice comes in a concentrated 1 litre bottle called "super knarl" that can be used neat as a high powered degreaser or watered down to provide up to 10 litres of normal strength bike cleaner.

So for a 1 litre bottle of dirt juice costing £11.49 you could get 10 bottles of cleaner... so thats £1.15 per litre!!!

All sounds good... so last weekend we tried it out. It was pretty mucky in East Sussex and the bike got caked. So we tried a watered down concentration of about 6 to 1, sprayed it on, washed it off and it oblierated the muck and left a nice healthy shine on the bike. Very good.

The concentrated dirt juice also worked very well as a degreaser. We've been using it in the workshop for general degreaser use all week (cleaning drivetrains mostly). No worries.

All this and its completely biodegradable. Very impressive.

If you fancy a bit of Dirt Juice you can find it on bikegoo here.

Happy riding!

The Finest Workstand in the World?

At Bikegoo we like to try out our products as much as we can to get an idea of the quality, reliability and functionality of the things we sell. Occasionally we stumble accross something which is really worth a special mention...

THE PRO ELITE

So, is this the best workstand in the world... maybe. Is this the best portable workstand in the world... almost certainly. What are we talking about? Its the one and only Ultimate Support / Feedback Sports Pro Elite workstand.

We started using one of these some time back for both workshop use and use out at events and its just plain excellent. Its stable, its solid and for a portable stand it has hardly any flex when holding even the heaviest bikes.

Its construction is excellent. A super sturdy base with tough quick release clamps that allow you adjust the height of the stand and the spread of the base. Its got a wonderfully attractive red finish and up at the top its got the best clamp you'll find on a workstand anywhere. Fully rotatable meaning you can position a bike in pretty much any position through 360 degrees and this stand will hold it in place by locking itself in position.

The clamp itself is a ratcheting type meaning you hold your bike between the jaws and push the clamp closed. Then turn the knob on the front to tighten it up that last bit. Super fast. Then to release the bike, hit the red release button on the top and the clamp pops open immediately.

Its superb design and functionality has meant that its a favourite for loads of the top bike brands and race teams. Brands like Shimano, Specialized, Trek, SRAM, Maxxis and so on all use the Pro Elite at their outdoor events.

These stands are sometimes difficult to comeby in the UK but we've taken delivery of loads of them and at £219.95 we are amongst the cheapest out there... so if you fancy treating yourself to a bit of bike maintenance luxury click here.

Cheers

Squirt!

The latest addition to our vast selection of cycle lubes has just arrived and this one looks really good.

Squirt is a wax based dry lube that is also biodegradable. In fact its the only wax based lube on the market that has these green credentials so its far kinder than many others on the market.

But how good is it? Well we tested it on two mountain bikes and thrashed them round Bedgebury's Singletrack and over some of our favourite East Sussex off road routes. We were very impressed. In dry dusty gravelly conditions the lube stayed clean and kept everything running smoothly. Just what you want really. Squirt also claims to be the best wax lube on the market in wet conditions. So you can rest assured that this lube can be used pretty much year round.

Its also easy to look after. To clean the chain there is no need to degrease. Squirt claim all you need to do is brush the chain or clean it with a toothpick! Personally we're not sure about the whole toothpick thing but it does show that minimal maintenance is required to keep your drivetrain running smoothly.

Squirt has also been endorsed by some MTB heroes including hall of famer Ned Overend. These guys have used a vast number of products and they claim Squirt is the best lube available. So there.

If you fancy trying some head on over to our webpage. At £7.79 its one of the premium priced lubes in our range but for that you get potentially the finest dry lube on the market... so its certainly worth it! Click Here to buy Squirt on Bikegoo.

If you want to learn a bit more about Squirt, have a look at their webpage by clicking here.

New bits from Pedros at Bikegoo

"TRIXIE"
"VICE WHIP"

Hello folks,

Just thought it worth a quick post to let you know about a couple of new bits we are stocking from good ol' Pedros. Pedros are one of the finest tool brands in the cycle market and they are always pushing the boundaries with innovative new developments to make looking after your bike that bit easier. The quality and experience that goes into every Pedros tool means that when they release some new bits and bobs, its worth sitting up and taking notice.

Two of their recent developments are the Pedros Trixie Fixed Wheel multi tool and the Vice Whip.

Trixie
We've just taken delivery of the Trixie tool. Its a wonderfully made super simple device that can deal with most maintenance problems on fixed wheel /track bikes. Its got the typical hardened steel construction with the black finish that Pedros has used on its tools for years. Absolutely solid. The tool offers:

- 15mm box end wrench
- a lock ring hook
- 8,9,10mm box end wrenches,
- 5mm hex
- a bottle opener.

It also comes supplied with wingnuts so the tool can be attached to your bottle cage bosses. A nice idea, but I suppose if you might be needing the tool quickly storing it in a bag or pocket is probably better. All tools are easy to use even the 8/9/10 wrenches that are housed in the main body of the tool. As with almost all Pedros tools it is backed up with a lifetime guarantee. All in its a great tool for a fixie rider who likes a minimal, cool looking and superb quality do it all tool.

If you're interested you can buy one right now from Bikegoo here

Vice Whip
The Pedros Vice Whip is a locking device (noticably similar in design to a set of molgrips) that clamps around the cassette to offer an unslippable cassette removal tool. It replaces the chain whip which can be susceptable to slipping when removing your cassette.

Now this is a pretty expensive tool for just removing your cassette but it is professional quality and the design is brilliant. If you are removing cassettes regularly it can provide a real benefit.

It will fit all 3/32" cogs from 11t - 23t and is made from heat-treated steel tough enough for everyday use. NOTE: It will not fit 1/8" track cogs.

We're currently waiting for stock to arrive on these but you should hopefully see them up on bikegoo soon. One thing is for sure, the Bikegoo workshop will be the first customer for one of these cracking little devices.

More to come...
There are quite a few other new bits to come from Pedros for 2009 and we'll be bringing you a bit of an update once we have them in stock so watch this space!

6th at Strathpuffer

The bikegoo team had a great result at the Strathpuffer 24 last weekend. In a race that had driving winds, snow and sub zero conditions the bikegoo mens pairs came in 6th after a formiddable performance from our two riders, Graham and Mark.

The race had a ferocious start and the first few laps saw a blistering pace being set by several front running teams. The bikegoo team found themselves in 15th place.

The Strathpuffer organisers seemed to have worked miracles over the last year and the course was excellent. Firm and stony terrain for the most of the course with a few muddy sections. This meant the course was a joy to ride rather than a chore.

As night set in the pace was still very fast and bikegoo found itself in 14th place. As normal with 24hr races, some teams go off too quickly and after a few hours people start to become tired and start clocking up slower times. However, bikegoo's tactics were centred around endurance and pacing themselves. They slogged on through the night recording some pretty impressive and consistent lap times while others struggled.

As the sun came up the bikegoo team had climbed to 8th. Then came the final push... Bikegoo's resident nutjob Graham unleashed his secret tactic... Freeze your ass off to make you go faster! He went out wearing next to nothing and flew round the course! He clocked two superfast laps in the closing minutes of the race and Bikegoo finished an impressive 6th.

Truly an excellent performance and a superb event. Well done to the team and to everyone who successfully completed the race. A special thanks goes to the guys who run the Strathpuffer 24 who put on an amazing event again.

Roll on next year!

Well, here we are 2009 is in full flow and its cold indeed.

Bike Cleaners on Offer
We've launched a bit of an offer on bike cleaners and cleaning accessories which always become rather important at this time of year. So have a look at www.bikegoo.co.uk and see if anything floats your boat.

Strathpuffer 24
Our Bikegoo team are preparing for their second outing to the Strathpuffer 24 in a couple of weeks time. This time they are doing it as a pair (rather than two soloists) and are currently in the process of getting trained up for what will be a cracking event. For those who have never heard about the Strathpuffer 24 before... Well its allegedly the most difficult 24 hour mountain bike race in the UK. Its on Jan 17-18th and takes place in freezing cold Scotland. For more info check out the Strathpuffer webpage.

Twittering away
We're still twittering away at the moment and quite enjoying it. Its really quite impressive knowing what Lance Armstrong and Steven Fry are up to on a daily basis!! We'll aim to keep you abreast of all our goings on on our blog going forward (we promise to try and keep it updated more regularly!) But we'll be updating twitter before anything else so to be the first to get our news you'll have to be following us on twitter www.twitter.com/bikegoo
